Pick the Right Printer Cable

Most printers use the square USB-B port on the printer side. The part people get wrong is the computer side: USB-A or USB-C.

Older / Common Setup

Choose this if your computer has the regular rectangular USB port.

Computer: USB-A rectangular plug
Printer: USB-B square printer plug

Common for many HP, Canon, Brother, Epson, Dell, Lexmark, and Xerox printers.

Newer Laptop Setup

Choose this if your laptop has the small rounded USB-C port.

Computer: USB-C rounded plug
Printer: USB-B square printer plug

Good for newer laptops, MacBooks, Chromebooks, and USB-C computers.

Quick rule: rectangular computer port = USB-A. Small rounded computer port = USB-C.
